I am writing to urge you to investigate Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard's inappropriate involvement in the FBI's search of the Fulton County, Georgia elections office on January 28. Her actions represent a dangerous politicization of law enforcement and intelligence agencies that threatens the integrity of our elections.
Gabbard attended the FBI search warrant execution at President Trump's direction and facilitated a phone call between Trump and FBI agents working on the case. This is deeply troubling because the DNI role is not a law enforcement position. The Director of National Intelligence oversees intelligence agencies and coordinates their efforts, but has no authority to participate in FBI investigations or enable presidential contact with agents conducting politically sensitive cases.
The administration's shifting explanations compound these concerns. Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche initially claimed Gabbard "happened to be present" and "wasn't at the search." These statements were false. Gabbard herself confirmed in a Monday night letter to House and Senate intelligence committees that she accompanied top FBI officials at Trump's request and facilitated the presidential phone call. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt then stated Trump had "tapped" Gabbard to work "directly alongside the FBI director" on election security.
This represents clear political interference in what should be an independent investigation. Trump has a documented history of pressuring law enforcement for favorable outcomes, and his direct communication with agents working on a case involving the 2020 election he continues to dispute is fundamentally inappropriate.
I urge you to demand a full investigation into Gabbard's actions, including whether she violated the boundaries of her statutory authority and compromised the independence of this investigation. Our elections depend on law enforcement agencies operating free from political pressure. Congress must act to protect that independence and hold administration officials accountable for overstepping their authority.
