We, the undersigned citizens, are writing in urgent protest against the termination of federal support for mRNA vaccine and research programs—a decision that endangers the health, security, and economic future of our nation and the world. We demand the immediate reversal of this policy and the reinstatement of mRNA funding and contracts for pandemic preparedness, ongoing vaccine development, and breakthrough medical research. mRNA technology is one of the most extraordinary advances in medical science in generations. The rapid development and deployment of mRNA vaccines have saved millions of lives globally, enabled the world to contain the COVID-19 pandemic, and are already revolutionizing treatments for diseases such as cancer, HIV, and influenza. Nobel Prize-winning breakthroughs in mRNA vaccination underpin our defenses against both new infectious threats and longstanding public health challenges. Cutting off mRNA programs is not only reckless and unscientific—it is economically illiterate and puts all Americans at risk. Top infectious disease experts and economic analysts alike have warned that ending this work weakens our ability to respond rapidly to future pandemics, something even President Trump acknowledged was a generational necessity during his own response to COVID-19. The global economic impact of vaccine-access delays runs into trillions of dollars—a cost that dwarfs any short-term budget “savings.” Let us be clear: prioritizing ideology or political gamesmanship over overwhelming scientific evidence and sound economics will cost lives. It will also cost jobs, sap American leadership in biomedical innovation, and leave our country—and the world—vulnerable to the next health emergency. If you do not immediately repeal this catastrophic policy and restore full support for mRNA research and public health preparedness, we pledge to pursue every available legal avenue to hold public officials accountable for the avoidable harm this will cause. Such a failure of political and moral responsibility cannot and will not go unanswered. We urge you in the strongest possible terms: - Reinstate all halted mRNA vaccine and research programs - Guarantee robust funding for biomedical innovation and pandemic preparedness - Put science and public health, not politics, first Do right by your constituents, your duty, and the world. Reverse this shortsighted error—before more lives and our future are lost.
