Trump’s NOAA Firings Put Millions at Risk: Action Needed

To: Pres. Trump, Sen. Erickson, Sen. Marshall, Rep. Estes, Sen. Moran, Rep. Helgerson, Gov. Kelly

From: A constituent in Wichita, KS

February 28

The recent mass firings at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) are reckless and will have severe consequences. By dismissing hundreds of weather forecasters and climate researchers, the Trump administration is undermining our ability to predict and respond to natural disasters. This is especially dangerous as climate change intensifies storms, floods, and wildfires. Without adequate staffing at NOAA, communities will face greater risks and reduced warning times during extreme weather events. These actions are chaotic and lack any strategic foresight, jeopardizing public safety now and in the future. Given the inaction of my Republican senators, who have remained silent and failed to uphold their responsibilities, I am urging my governor and state legislators to take immediate action. It is imperative that Congress intervenes to halt this authoritarian overreach and restore NOAA’s full operational capacity. The dismantling of federal agencies like NOAA not only endangers lives but also erodes the foundational structures that protect our nation. State leaders must advocate for the preservation of these critical institutions to ensure the safety and well-being of all citizens.
