Condemn Trump's illegal incompetent war
To: Sen. Collins
From: A verified voter in Lewiston, ME
March 30
You justified your vote against constitutional order in relation to the war powers act and Trump's attacks on Iran because there were (then) no American soldiers on the ground.
Now that is about to change.
And now it is clear what a ruinous incompetent exercise this war has become.
The straits of Hormuz were open before the attacks.
We HAD a nuclear agreement with Iran until 2018.
Trump tore that deal up.
He and Hegseth ordered war crimes committed. And now we want to go back to status quo ante.
"Trump is desperately trying to negotiate the exact same Iran nuclear deal he ripped up in 2018.
The US literally went to war just to get back to the agreement they already had."
Most recently Trump stated that he wanted to go in and just "take" oil.
I assume you never go and just "take" your neighbor's car or dog or snowblower?
This war is illegal: it is waged without congressional authorization and without regard for international laws of war.
It is also fracturing our alliances: "Trump's foreign policy involves the accomplishment of every one of Putin's major foreign policy objectives, including the disruption of UK relations with the EU."
You swore an oath to the constitution.
Defend the constitution.
Uphold the War Powers act.
Stop allowing Trump to ride roughshod over the constitution and all laws and norms.
