My taxes are not for genocide

To: Sen. Brown, Rep. Brown, Sen. Vance, Pres. Biden

From: A constituent in Cleveland, OH

September 1

I am writing to express my deep concern and outrage over the ongoing atrocities committed by Israel in the Gaza Strip. The actions taken by the Israeli government against the Palestinian people, including indiscriminate bombings, targeted attacks on civilians, and the systematic destruction of essential infrastructure, are not only morally indefensible but also constitute clear violations of international law. These acts, which have led to the deaths of thousands of innocent men, women, and children, are nothing short of war crimes. It is abhorrent to me that my hard-earned tax dollars are being used to support and enable what increasingly resembles a campaign of ethnic cleansing. I cannot, in good conscience, accept that my government continues to provide military and financial assistance to a state that shows such blatant disregard for human rights and international norms. The lack of accountability and the absence of any serious effort to rein in these actions are a stain on our nation’s commitment to justice and human dignity. Furthermore, I am deeply troubled by the dangerous rhetoric and actions of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, which bear an alarming resemblance to the early stages of authoritarian regimes that have led to some of the darkest chapters in modern history. The parallels between these actions and those taken by fascist leaders of the past are undeniable, and it is terrifying to witness history seemingly repeating itself while the world turns a blind eye. It is imperative that the United States not only reevaluate its unconditional support for Israel but also take immediate and decisive action to hold the Israeli government accountable for its crimes. The continued funding of a government engaged in these atrocities is not just a political misstep; it is a moral failure that contradicts the very values we claim to uphold as a nation. I urge you to use your positions of power to advocate for an immediate cessation of all U.S. military aid to Israel until it complies with international law and respects the basic human rights of the Palestinian people. Our nation's legacy should not be one of complicity in genocide but one of standing on the right side of history. Thank you for your attention to this critical issue. I look forward to seeing meaningful action taken in response to these grave concerns.
