Condemn anti-transgender discrimination in Congress and defend equality
To: Rep. Espaillat

November 22
There should be no place for discrimination or targeted restrictions against transgender individuals in the United States Congress or anywhere else. Representative Sarah McBride deserves the same dignity, respect, and access as every other member of Congress. The efforts by some Republicans to ban her from using bathrooms that align with her gender identity are abhorrent and endanger not just Congresswoman McBride, but all women by promoting invasive suspicion and harassment. These discriminatory policies have no place in our government institutions. They perpetuate harmful biases and make transgender Americans feel unwelcome in the halls of power that are meant to represent them. As a progressive representative, you should forcefully condemn these regressive attacks on human rights and dignity. A strong public statement standing firmly with Representative McBride would send a powerful message that such bigotry will not be tolerated. Decent people of all political persuasions must reject these discriminatory efforts and defend the equal rights of their transgender colleagues and constituents.
