I write with profound alarm over the blatant criminal conspiracy underway in this Administration to strip legal residents of their fundamental rights. Recent reporting reveals that the Department of Homeland Security has covertly sent Venezuelan migrants—many with no criminal history—into foreign prisons where they face inhumane conditions akin to torture camps. Such actions echo the very tyranny our Founders decried in the Declaration of Independence: “For transporting us beyond the Seas to be tried for pretended Offenses.” Even more troubling, this Administration has repeatedly defied court orders—ignoring injunctions from district and appellate judges to return deported individuals and to restore federal agency webpages removed by executive fiat. Now the Supreme Court’s decision granting the President near‑absolute immunity for official acts has stripped away the only remaining check on executive power, a move Justice Sotomayor warns will “undermine the principle that no one is above the law.” As one federal judge recently observed, “there is no higher authority to enforce limits on the President if courts cannot hold him accountable.” These developments point unmistakably toward an authoritarian drift, with fascism no longer at our doorstep but inside our house. Congress must act without delay to preserve our democracy: 1. Initiate or support impeachment proceedings under Article I for “high Crimes and Misdemeanors,” including this conspiracy to deport lawful residents without due process. 2. Pass legislation to codify limits on presidential immunity and mandate compliance with all judicial orders—restoring the balance of powers. 3. Exercise aggressive oversight via hearings and subpoenas to fully expose these illegal deportations and hold all responsible officials to account. Our republic teeters on the brink. If Congress fails to muster the political will to check this criminal Executive, we risk cementing a presidency beyond the law and beyond the people’s control. I urge you to rise to this historic challenge and defend the Constitution before it is too late.
