Keep Lake Ontario Lake Ontario

To: Rep. Bohnak, Sen. McBroom

From: A verified voter in Marquette, MI

August 28

I’m writing to ask you to support Michigan continuing to recognize Lake Ontario by its historic name. The Great Lakes are an important part of our history, identity, economy, and relationship with Canada. Lake Ontario has carried its name for centuries, and I just don’t see what Michigan or the Great Lakes region gains by changing it to “Lake America.” Will you support keeping Lake Ontario as the name used by the State of Michigan and oppose any effort to spend state resources changing maps, educational materials, records, or other references to adopt the new federal name? Preserving the history and longstanding identity of the Great Lakes shouldn’t be a partisan issue. I’d appreciate knowing where you stand and what action you’re willing to take at the state level. Thanks for your time.
