An Open Letter

To: Rep. Moolenaar, Sen. Slotkin, Sen. Peters

From: A constituent in Rockford, MI

June 13

I am a constituent writing to urge you to take immediate action to uphold America's commitment to human rights and international law where the Israeli-Palestinian territories are concerned. Recent reports from various United Nations bodies, Amnesty International, and Human Rights Watch detail grave violations of international humanitarian law by Israeli forces, particularly in Gaza. These include: Indiscriminate Attacks and Civilian Casualties: Widespread indiscriminate attacks in densely populated areas have devastated Gaza's educational system and cultural sites. An estimated 70% of casualties are women and children, and Gaza now has the world's highest percentage of child amputees. Starvation as a Weapon: Severe restrictions on humanitarian aid, food, water, and fuel have led to widespread famine, constituting a war crime. Targeting Protected Sites: Educational facilities, religious sites, and hospitals, even when sheltering civilians, have been targeted. Allegations of Genocide: Amnesty International suggests a basis to conclude Israel is committing genocide, citing acts like killing and causing serious harm, alongside dehumanizing official statements. The United States' role is undeniable. As Israel's primary ally, we provide extensive military, diplomatic, and financial support, bypassing Congressional review for arms sales and using our UN veto to shield Israel from scrutiny. This unwavering support, especially the provision of weapons used in war crimes, places the U.S. at risk of complicity under international law. I urge you to: Condition or Suspend Military Aid: Tie all military aid to Israel to strict adherence to international humanitarian law. Prioritize Humanitarian Aid: Demand unrestricted access for essential aid into all affected areas. Promote Accountability: Champion policies that ensure accountability for all parties, without exception, to foster peace and stability. America's moral standing hinges on our commitment to human rights. Please act with courage and conviction to address these critical concerns.
