An Open Letter

To: Sen. Wyden, Sen. Merkley, Rep. Bonamici

From: A constituent in Gaston, OR

Stop allowing companies and shareholders to enrich themselves on the backs of their employees. Mistreating employees to pad bottom lines has got to stop. Companies making record profits while laying off their workers is unacceptable. Companies that do this should be taxed at a higher rate to pay for retraining for other jobs or at the very least incentivized to retrain and transition workers to other positions within the company. Using employees as a commodity instead of the human beings they are is hurtful to the economy overall and merely shifts the burden to the government and non-profit sector to support these laid off workers so billionaires can live in luxury. This is unfair and immoral. I am asking you to stop allowing this to happen. I am asking you to ban billionaires and force companies to take responsibility for the lives they destroy.
