Stop the Farm Bill — Protect Families and Animals

To: Sen. Hirono, Sen. Schatz, Rep. Tokuda

From: A verified voter in Kula, HI

July 6

As your constituent, I urge you to vote against any Farm Bill or farm-related legislation that fails to protect SNAP or help families afford food. Millions have already lost assistance, and more families are at risk if Congress moves forward without reversing cuts or preventing further losses. I also urge you to oppose any Farm Bill that shifts SNAP costs onto states. Without a full delay for every state, families could face reduced benefits, new barriers, or cuts to essential services. In addition, the Farm Bill must not weaken animal-welfare protections or override state laws that safeguard humane treatment. States must retain the ability to set stronger standards to protect animals and ensure responsible agricultural practices. Farmers need support, but so do the families who buy the food they produce — and the animals whose welfare depends on strong, enforceable protections. Congress should not advance major agricultural legislation while ignoring hunger, state authority, and animal welfare. I urge you to reject any Farm Bill that does not fully protect SNAP, prevent additional losses, preserve state animal-welfare laws, and ensure families can afford food.
