I am writing as a constituent to express my concern about the TSA's recent decision to prohibit officers from sitting while checking passengers' identification.
TSA officers perform essential security functions, often spending long hours on their feet. Denying them the option to sit when their duties permit serves no demonstrated security purpose and risks unnecessary fatigue, discomfort, and injury.
The agency argues that standing conveys attentiveness and hospitality. I would argue that professionalism is demonstrated through competence, courtesy, and vigilance—not whether an employee is seated.
I support the TSA and the dedicated officers who keep travelers safe. Please encourage TSA leadership to reconsider this policy, restore appropriate seating, and consult with frontline employees about reasonable workplace accommodations.
These officers deserve our respect and support, not arbitrary restrictions that make their demanding jobs unnecessarily difficult.
