Stop Border Construction in Big Bend National Park Stop the border barrier construction in Big Bend National Park now. Bulldozers broke ground on August 6th, plowing through native vegetation along the Rio Grande — and the administration waived dozens of environmental laws, including the National Park Service Organic Act and the Endangered Species Act, to make it happen. That's the first time in U.S. history the federal government has stripped that level of protection from inside a national park. This project doesn't even make sense on its own terms. The Big Bend Sector accounted for just 1.3% of border apprehensions in 2025, and within the park itself, that figure drops to 0.045% of the national total. No unauthorized vehicle crossings have been documented in the areas slated for dynamite blasting. All five local sheriffs oppose it. The $1.7 billion contract will blast roads through Mariscal Mountain and cut off public access to the Rio Grande, threatening the outfitters and businesses that support a regional economy drawing $4.6 billion in visitor spending annually. Use every tool available to halt this construction and restore the environmental protections that were illegally stripped away. Big Bend belongs to all of us.
