I am an Illinois constituent writing to urge you to vote no on Todd Blanche’s confirmation as attorney general. Mr. Blanche has reportedly told religious leaders that the Department of Justice is coordinating with federal health agencies and the White House to make the Dobbs decision permanent in every state. His willingness to consider using federal authority and the Comstock Act against mailed abortion medication threatens patients even in states such as Illinois that protect reproductive freedom. The attorney general must defend the constitutional rights, privacy, religious freedom, and bodily autonomy of every American. Federal law-enforcement power must not be used to impose one religious or ideological position on private medical decisions. Please take the following actions: Vote no on Todd Blanche’s confirmation. Oppose any effort to use the Comstock Act to prohibit the mailing or transportation of abortion medication, miscarriage medication, contraceptives, or medical equipment. Protect the FDA’s authority to make evidence-based decisions about mifepristone, telehealth prescribing, and pharmacy dispensing. Support S.951, the Stop Comstock Act. Demand public answers from Mr. Blanche about precisely what policies DOJ is preparing and which agencies are involved. If you already oppose his nomination or support S.951, please actively recruit other senators, speak publicly, and press Senate leadership not to rush this confirmation. Bodily autonomy and private medical decision-making are fundamental human rights. I will consider every senator’s actions on reproductive freedom when I vote. Please provide a written response explaining what actions you will take.
