Mullin’s Flight Ban Threat: Grounding the Constitution to Score Cheap Political Points
I am a voting constituent writing to demand immediate oversight and accountability regarding Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin’s threats to halt international flight processing in "sanctuary cities." Using localized street protests as a pretext to disrupt global travel is a textbook definition of a performative stunt, and it must be stopped.
The Department of Homeland Security exists to protect our borders and secure the nation, not to weaponize federal infrastructure against American cities to appease an unconstitutional partisan agenda. Halting Customs and Border Protection (CBP) processing at major international hubs will not change local immigration ordinances. Instead, he threatens to force mass flight cancellations, strand thousands of everyday travelers, and inflict catastrophic economic damage on both red and blue states alike.
Secretary Mullin must be reminded that his oath is to the United States Constitution, not to political theater. Forcing American citizens and businesses to suffer financial and logistical harm to score quick media points is an egregious abuse of administrative power.
I urge you to use your legislative power to rein in this regulatory overreach. Demand that DHS stick to its actual constitutional duties and put an end to these reckless threats.
