I am writing to demand immediate action following the fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Good, a 37-year-old Minneapolis mother, by an ICE agent. On the day following the Trump administration's deployment of approximately 2,000 federal agents to Minnesota communities, an ICE agent shot Ms. Good three times in the head through her car window. This tragedy demands Congressional accountability.
The aggressive enforcement operations in Minneapolis have created widespread fear and chaos. Children are afraid to attend school. Agents have been smashing car windows, dragging people from vehicles, zip-tying children, and physically harming both citizens and non-citizens. These tactics show a complete disregard for law and civil rights, and federal agents are terrorizing the communities you represent.
I urge you to take three specific actions. First, demand an immediate end to the ICE operation in Minneapolis and prevent other large-scale escalations of this nature. Second, oppose any further funding increases to ICE's enforcement and detention budget. The agency has demonstrated it cannot be trusted with additional resources when current operations result in the death of constituents and widespread community trauma.
Third, launch a transparent and independent investigation into Renee Nicole Good's killing, ICE's hiring practices, and the accountability failures that allowed this to happen. Families in your district deserve answers about how a federal agent could kill a mother in her car and what systemic problems enabled this tragedy.
Congress has both the authority and the responsibility to hold ICE accountable and protect all constituents from federal overreach. I expect you to use your position to ensure no additional funding flows to an agency that has shown such dangerous disregard for human life and civil rights. Your constituents are watching how you respond to this crisis.
