I am deeply concerned by the recent reports of DOGE operatives like Jon Koval and Payton Rehling being transferred from the Social Security Administration to the Justice Department's immigration enforcement unit. Allowing an outside group access to highly sensitive personal data raises serious privacy and civil liberties issues, especially when that data could be exploited to target undocumented immigrants for deportation. This appears to be part of a troubling broader effort to misuse Social Security records and criminal prosecution as tools for aggressive immigration crackdowns. Social Security data contains extremely personal information on millions of Americans and legal residents. Granting access to this treasure trove of data to individuals working on behalf of nebulous "efficiency" agendas sets a dangerous precedent of compromising citizens' privacy rights. The Justice Department's mission is to uphold the law and protect civil rights - wielding prosecutorial power and personal data specifically to deport undocumented immigrants runs counter to these principles. I urge you to take immediate action to revoke DOGE's access to Social Security data, halt their involvement with immigration cases at the Justice Department, and implement stronger safeguards to prevent any misuse or abuse of Americans' personal information for politically-motivated purposes that violate civil liberties. Exploiting private data to target vulnerable communities is an unacceptable overreach that undermines core democratic values.
