Support D.C. statehood, end taxation without fair representation

To: Rep. Rayner, Pres. Trump, Sen. Moody, Sen. Scott, Sen. Rouson, Gov. DeSantis, Rep. Castor

From: A constituent in Saint Petersburg, FL

August 13

The Trump administration's unwarranted actions to federalize the D.C. police and deploy the National Guard are an egregious overreach and assault on local self-governance. This unjustified move to seize control under the guise of addressing low crime rates exposes the disenfranchisement faced by D.C. residents who lack voting representation in Congress. With over 700,000 taxpaying citizens, D.C. has a larger population than Vermont and Wyoming, yet residents are denied the rights afforded to other Americans living in states. This discriminatory situation is unacceptable in a democratic society. I urge you to cosponsor and work to pass H.R. 51/S. 51 to finally grant D.C. statehood and ensure its citizens receive equal rights and representation. The recent events make evident the dire need to end D.C.'s subjugation and taxation without representation by admitting it as the 51st state.
