Where is the investigation for Trump's insider trading? It's a crime!

Every time Trump posts, someone makes money and someone loses it. He just decided the winners should be whoever pays him $100,000 a month. The President of the United States is selling early access to his own market-manipulating posts. Trump Media & Technology Group launched a product called Truth API on Saturday. For a monthly fee that runs as high as $100,000, trading firms get the fastest possible access to the feeds of high-profile users, including the president himself, before the information reaches everyone else. What they are paying for is a head start on Trump's announcements about tariffs, economic policy, and global events, the posts that routinely send stocks up or down within minutes. This is not a hypothetical. On the morning of April 9 last year, Trump posted on Truth Social, in all caps, "THIS IS A GREAT TIME TO BUY!!! DJT." About four hours later he announced he was pausing most of his new tariffs, and the market shot up. Democrats demanded an insider trading investigation at the time. Now Trump has taken that exact dynamic and turned it into a subscription. Renée Jones, a Boston College law professor and former top official at the Securities and Exchange Commission, said the arrangement appears to break insider trading law. The relevant statutes prohibit schemes where nonpublic information is misused to give a trader an unfair edge, and they treat sharing that information as a breach of trust. "So if the president's Truth Social posts are being monetized, and if some people get special access to them, that's misappropriated information," Jones said. "And by giving people his posts early, he is also violating his duty of trust and confidence." Selling fast data access is normal for a social media company. The difference here is the account. This is the President of the United States, whose words are official market-moving information, selling front-row access to that information to whoever can pay six figures a month, while the company that runs it bears his name and pays him. He already made $2 billion last year, most of it from crypto ventures. This is the next line item. Governor Gavin Newsom said what the numbers spell out: "He is now literally selling early access to market-moving information. Where is the investigation?" The president says something. The market jumps. And now, for a hundred grand a month, you can be the first to know what he is about to say. Everyone else finds out after the people who paid already traded on it. That is not a media company. That is a toll booth on the presidency.
