Preserve voting rights, oppose SAVE Act disenfranchisement

To: Rep. Rose, Sen. Hagerty, Sen. Blackburn

From: A constituent in Nashville, TN

February 10

The SAVE Act threatens to disenfranchise millions of eligible American voters by requiring documentary proof-of-citizenship to register to vote in federal elections. This harmful legislation would create unnecessary barriers, particularly impacting communities of color, newly naturalized citizens, those who have changed their names, and Native Americans living on reservations without residential addresses. Recent studies estimate up to 35 million citizens lacking readily available documents could be denied their constitutional right to vote. Preserving the integrity of our democracy requires safeguarding access to the ballot box for all qualified voters. Oppose the SAVE Act to uphold the sacred principles of universal suffrage and equal protection under the law.
