Oppose the Interstate Obscenity Definition Act

To: Rep. Carter, Sen. Ossoff, Sen. Warnock

From: A constituent in Hinesville, GA

May 9

I'm writing to ask you to oppose bills like Texas' SB 20 and Senator Mike Lee's Interstate Obscenity Definition Act. These bills would radically alter the definition of obscenity, making it that much easier to censor disfavored speech and expression online and offline. What is even more concerning is the fact that groups like the Heritage Foundation and NCOSE are willing to throw the rights of adults under the bus under the guise of protecting children from 'harmful material'. What may be offensive to one person night not be for another. The failure of age verification laws to protect victims from having their personal photos posted and exploited on rogue pirate websites overseas should demonstrate how censorious and ineffective these bills are when it comes to their states purpose. Wanting to protect children from harm is commendable but it should not require ripping apart the Constitution to do so.
