The proposal to amend the Constitution to allow a president to seek a third term is deeply concerning and antithetical to the principles of democracy. The 22nd Amendment, which limits presidents to two terms, was ratified to prevent any individual from accumulating excessive power and undermining the peaceful transfer of power that is the hallmark of our system. Granting an exception for a single president would set a dangerous precedent and open the door to further erosion of these critical Constitutional safeguards. This amendment must be rejected. Our democratic institutions rely on checks and balances, term limits being one of the most fundamental. No president should be exempt from this constraint solely for partisan or personal interests. Enshrining such an exception into the Constitution would deal a severe blow to the integrity of our republic and the ideals upon which it was founded. We urge our representatives to firmly uphold the 22nd Amendment and the precious democratic values it protects.
