I am writing to express my concerns regarding the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act of 2025. While I understand the intention behind the bill, I believe it does not effectively protect women and girls in sports. Instead, it may inadvertently create opportunities for predators and compromise the safety and privacy of athletes.
The bill's requirement for individuals to participate in sports programs based on their biological sex at birth raises significant privacy and ethical concerns. It could lead to invasive physical inspections, which would be both humiliating and harmful to young athletes. This approach does not foster a safe and inclusive environment for all participants.
Furthermore, the bill discriminates against transgender individuals, denying them the opportunity to participate in sports programs that align with their gender identity. Transgender girls are girls, and they deserve the same opportunities to participate in sports as their cisgender peers. Excluding them from girls' sports teams is discriminatory and goes against the principles of equality and fairness.
Participation in sports has significant positive effects on mental health and well-being. For transgender girls, being able to play on a team that aligns with their gender identity can help reduce feelings of isolation and improve self-esteem. Additionally, including transgender girls in sports promotes diversity and teaches all athletes the value of acceptance and respect for others, regardless of their gender identity.
I urge you to reconsider your support for this bill and to work towards more inclusive and effective solutions that protect the rights and well-being of all athletes. Thank you for your attention to this important matter.
