Reject Devastating Cuts to Vital Global Aid Programs
To: Sen. Slotkin, Sen. Peters
From: A constituent in Lansing, MI
July 15
The Trump administration's proposed rescissions package under H.R. 4 poses a grave threat to public media and vital programs that provide lifesaving aid and support around the world. This bill aims to slash over $1 billion in funding for public broadcasting through the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, as well as billions more for global health initiatives like the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), international disaster relief, refugee assistance, democracy promotion, and economic development programs. These drastic cuts would cripple the ability of public media organizations like NPR and PBS to serve local communities with critical journalism and educational programming. The services and aid provided by these global programs are essential and have proven effective in saving millions of lives. Cutting their funding would represent a severe blow to public media, human rights, global health, and international cooperation efforts.
