Decommission perilous Line 5 pipeline to protect Great Lakes

To: Rep. McClain

From: A constituent in Clay, MI

April 9

I call on Governor Whitmer to block the approval of the Line 5 pipeline's construction operated by Enbridge to prioritize deactivating dangerous antiquated infrastructure over profits of polluters. The fossil fuel Line 5 pipeline operated by Enbridge in the Straits of Mackinac poses a catastrophic threat to the Great Lakes – running precariously beneath the waterway transporting heavy tar sands oil that is virtually impossible to clean up in the event of a spill. Enbridge's negligent safety record, coupled with the difficulty of containing this hazardous crude, endangers a precious freshwater system sustaining indigenous communities and abundant wildlife. Immediate action is crucial to decommission this ticking timebomb before an inevitable rupture contaminates critical ecosystems and drinking sources serving millions.
