Demand Kilmar Obrega's lawful return from El Salvadoran gulag

To: Sen. King, Sen. Collins, Rep. Pingree

From: A constituent in Thomaston, ME

April 17

The safe return of Kilmar Obrega, a resident unlawfully detained and deported to an El Salvadoran gulag by immigration authorities despite being a valued member of our community, is of critical urgency and has escalated into a constitutional crisis demanding swift legal resolution. The executive branch's refusal to return Kilmar has not only separated a beloved individual from their family and community support system but also raises grave concerns about potential human rights violations. This situation poses a severe threat to the principles enshrined in our nation's founding documents, which guarantee due process and humane treatment for all individuals, regardless of immigration status. Kilmar's prolonged detention and deportation to a gulag, as well as the executive branch's denial of his lawful return, present an unjust obstruction demanding immediate action to uphold the rule of law. Our community stands united in advocating for Kilmar's prompt, secure, and constitutionally sound return home from the El Salvadoran gulag, as this crisis necessitates an urgent resolution.
