Free the Prairieland Protesters — Oppose Politically Motivated Sentencing

To: Sen. Cornyn, Sen. Cruz, Rep. Casar

From: A constituent in Manor, TX

July 8

The sentencing of seven people connected to the Prairieland Detention Center protest is a political prosecution, and I need you to speak out against it publicly and push for legislative reform to prevent this administration from weaponizing the justice system against dissent. Labeling protesters as "antifa" to justify harsh sentences is a tactic straight from the authoritarian playbook — it criminalizes opposition, not violence. This is what unchecked executive power looks like. When the government can round up, prosecute, and imprison people for showing up to protest an ICE detention facility, no one who disagrees with this administration is safe. These sentences should be challenged, and you have a platform and a vote to do something about it. Use every tool available — floor speeches, media appearances, co-sponsorship of reform legislation — to push back on prosecutorial overreach targeting political protesters. History will not be kind to those who stayed quiet while this happened. I expect you to be loud.
