Reject the Nomination of Jay Clayton
I am a voting constituent writing to express my firm opposition to the nomination of Jay Clayton as the Director of National Intelligence (DNI). The head of our intelligence community must possess a deep, proven background in national security—a standard Mr. Clayton completely fails to meet.
Mr. Clayton has no professional experience in intelligence or global security. Instead, his career has focused heavily on representing major corporate investment banks in international transactions. This background introduces severe potential conflicts of interest between private financial motives and our nation's vital defense priorities. Furthermore, his public alignment Trump's agenda—such as defending a controversial $1.8 billion "Anti-Weaponization" fund and promoting election conspiracy theories—demonstrates a troubling lack of the objective, rational judgment required for this role.
With critical decisions ahead regarding the reauthorization and necessary privacy reforms of FISA Section 702, our intelligence agencies cannot afford leaderless or unqualified oversight.
I urge you to soundly reject Jay Clayton’s nomination and demand a qualified nominee who possesses the necessary intelligence experience to safeguard our country.
