DEFUND ICE NOW
To: Sen. Ossoff, Rep. Williams, Sen. Warnock
From: A constituent in Atlanta, GA
January 16
I am writing to you as a deeply concerned constituent to demand that you immediately stop all funding for Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Across the country, ICE has operated with zero accountability, engaging in a documented pattern of unchecked violence and loss of life. Communities have been subjected to aggressive raids, warrantless surveillance, and the forcible taking of people from their homes, workplaces, and neighborhoods. There are repeated reports of innocent people, including U.S. citizens, being detained, harmed, and killed as a result of ICE operations. This level of brutality, carried out in the name of the federal government and funded by taxpayers, is intolerable and must end. On January 7, 2026, ICE agents shot and killed Renee Nicole Good, a U.S. citizen, in Minneapolis; an event that is part of a broader pattern of unchecked violence, impunity, and abuse by ICE personnel. This lethal, senseless violence being carried out with taxpayer funding is unacceptable in a democratic society that claims to value human rights, due process, and accountability. It is unethical and unconscionable for my tax dollars to support an agency operating in such a manner. I and many others are prepared to withhold our tax dollars and eliminate federal withholding if necessary, to ensure that our money does not underwrite kidnapping and violence against innocent people. This is not an idle threat; it reflects the severity of our outrage and the moral stance we are taking. Therefore, I demand that you: Refuse to vote for any appropriations bill for the Department of Homeland Security that includes funding for ICE or Border Patrol. Insist on meaningful restrictions and oversight, including prohibiting dragnet operations that target people based on color, race, language, or location and ending Border Patrol deployment in U.S. cities. Reject any increase to ICE’s budget and eliminate reprogramming authority that allows DHS to shift funds into detention and enforcement without accountability. My expectations are clear: not one additional penny of taxpayer funding should be directed to ICE, and until meaningful reforms, restrictions, or abolition of the agency are enacted, I will not be complicit by funding its operations. I urge you to act with urgency and conscience. I expect a prompt response outlining how you will oppose ICE funding and protect the values of justice, human rights, and community safety.
