Not One Penny For Trump's War of Choice on Iran, No Supplemental Appropriations

To: Rep. Auchincloss, Sen. Warren, Sen. Markey

From: A constituent in Newton, MA

March 11

The White House has indicated they will soon request as much as $50 billion in supplemental appropriations to continue Trump’s war on Iran, on top of the Pentagon’s trillion-dollar budget. You should not approve a single additional penny. This administration has spent more than a year insisting we cannot afford public spending that actually helps us, from cancer research to child care. Now they’re telling us we apparently have billions just lying around for a war of choice none of us chose. The billion dollars a day they’re already using for this operation could cover all the cuts they made to Medicaid and the ACA tax credits! It’s ridiculous, and it’s unacceptable. This administration has no explanation, no plan, no clear goals in mind for this war. The only thing they seem sure of is they’re fine with whatever it costs us. We’re already going to be paying too much for it in gas and everything that needs gas to get to the store. You can stop us from having to pay for it in school lunches and Social Security too. We don’t need to pour money into another endless war to keep our troops safe. We’ll protect them by bringing Trump’s unnecessary conflict to an end as soon as possible. Don’t make the defense contractors and fossil fuel companies richer while working folks struggle to pay the bills. Put regular Americans first for once.
