Vote against Chip Roy's MAMDANI Act. This bill would give the federal government power to deport naturalized citizens and green-card holders for owning books or associating with political movements Roy labels "totalitarian," including socialism and Palestinian nationalism.
The legislation is a racist attack disguised as national security. It targets 25 million naturalized citizens and 12.8 million green-card holders, threatening them with deportation for possessing works by Marx or Howard Zinn, or for joining organizations like the Democratic Socialists. The word "possess" in the bill means simply owning certain books could make someone deportable. This is thought policing, plain and simple.
Worse, the bill eliminates judicial review entirely. No court could stop or appeal a deportation or denaturalization decision. This strips away habeas corpus and creates a system where the government can revoke citizenship without meaningful oversight. We've seen this before with the Palmer Raids and the Alien and Sedition Acts, and history judged those actions as shameful overreach.
This isn't about security. It's about punishing immigrants and people of color for their political beliefs. Reject this bill and any attempt to create second-class citizenship based on ideology.
