An Open Letter

To: Rep. Ryan

From: A verified voter in Highland, NY

July 17

I am really upset that a 22nd person has just died in ICE custody. ICE does not make anyone safer—it brings death, suffering and destruction. Please ask the Congressmember to support the Melt ICE Act (H.R. 7190). This bill would defund ICE and redirect that funding to critical services, such as housing and healthcare. Also, I strongly oppose H.R. 1181 – the Protecting Privacy in Purchases Act. This bill prohibits credit card companies from assigning a specific merchant category code to gun retailers, overriding state laws in several states that require such coding. This will not make us safer. Vote no. Also, I understand that Republicans are working on a new reconciliation bill that would contain another $60B for the Pentagon, and well as $10B for the SAVE Act. Other than some subsidies for farmers it contains absolutely nothing to help working Americans. I cannot overstate how furious I will be if it passes. Vote no.
