Defend our Republic

To: Rep. Pingree, Sen. King, Sen. Collins

From: A constituent in Cape Elizabeth, ME

June 20

I am writing to you out of great concern for the growing tyranny in America. The occupant of the White House and leader of the Republican party has demonstrated in a short time that this label is applicable to him. As such, many of the same have sprung up throughout the Republican party as enablers. My simple ask to you as one of my elected representatives is to do what must be done to preserve the ideals upon which our nation was built. Hold the president and his enablers accountable privately, publicly, and passionately for our Republic. Some ways I see that I would urge you to do that are as follows. First, the president is openly implying that he is considering war with Iran. Most Americans do not want this. Use your power in congress to override the president and keep the power to declare war where the constitution places it – with congress. Second, the reconciliation bill that is currently in the Senate is a gross betrayal of the American people, and the American dream. Taking away rights, directing the flow of money upwards, giving away public programs and public lands, and relaxing accountability for the executive branch are ideas that would come at great cost to us all. Finally, I would urge you to work towards hearings for any member of the executive branch who ignore constitutional and judicial protocol and direction. Anyone, including the president, found guilty of these betrayals – specifically to the constitution – would demonstrate a violation of their oath of office and be a candidate for impeachment. Thank you for your time.
