Defend the 14th Amendment: Protect Birthright Citizenship In light of the Supreme Court's recent ruling upholding birthright citizenship, I am writing to strongly urge you to reject any subsequent legislative attempts to restrict or dismantle this foundational American pillar. House Speaker Mike Johnson and others have signaled their disappointment with the Court’s decision, incorrectly characterizing the 14th Amendment’s citizenship clause as being grossly abused or encouraging birth tourism. However, as the Supreme Court rightfully affirmed, the text of the Constitution is clear: birthright citizenship is an enduring promise that extends to those born on U.S. soil, providing vital legal certainty to countless families. Attempting to bypass this ruling through federal legislation not only faces immense constitutional hurdles, but it also actively subverts a core American value. Weaponizing immigration status to deny citizenship to children undermines our nation's identity as a land of opportunity and equality. The majority of the American public firmly supports this long-standing tradition. I urge you to respect the rule of law, honor the Supreme Court's ruling, and soundly reject any proposals that seek to undermine birthright citizenship.
