An Open Letter
To: Gov. Lee
From: A constituent in Knoxville, TN
November 11
Sir,
Why are you allowing the Secretary of State to close and audit public libraries? This is an infringement upon decency but also constitutional rights. Professional librarians are and have been graduate level experts in this practice. We review and evaluate and discuss every item of our collection. This is a gross and performative waste of time and money that Tennesseeans don’t have. The library is closed during the shut down and snap lapse? How do people access the internet? How do they find resources? You both must not realize that libraries are warming centers and that we are glorified social workers. This is shameless. It is shameful.
