Protect Medicaid, uphold healthcare access for vulnerable communities

To: Sen. Lummis, Sen. Barrasso, Rep. Hageman, Pres. Trump

From: A constituent in Cheyenne, WY

June 30, 2025

Congress's proposed cuts to Medicaid funding under the "Big Beautiful Bill" threaten to inflict severe harm on underserved communities across the nation. As directors of free clinics, they witness firsthand the indispensable role Medicaid plays in providing healthcare access to the most vulnerable residents. Stripping millions of Americans of their Medicaid coverage will only exacerbate the burden on already overwhelmed free clinics and emergency rooms, leaving countless individuals without viable options for essential care. This cost-shifting measure seems designed solely to facilitate tax cuts for the wealthiest, widening the economic divide at the expense of those struggling to make ends meet. Rather than undermining the social safety net, it should be strengthened to uphold shared values of compassion and community responsibility. No American should be denied access to quality healthcare due to financial constraints. Congress is implored to reconsider these draconian cuts that will disproportionately impact rural areas. The wellbeing of constituents should be prioritized over partisan agendas and corporate interests. Robust investment in Medicaid not only aligns with moral principles but also bolsters the long-term prosperity of communities by ensuring a healthy workforce. This vital program must be protected to prevent millions from losing their healthcare lifeline.
