Use Your Senate Leadership to Leave a Human-Security Legacy
To: Sen. Durbin
From: A verified voter in Dunlap, IL
August 5
As one of Illinois’s senators and an experienced Senate leader, please use your remaining time in office to advance a lasting human-security and democratic-reform agenda.
I ask you to prioritize legislation that guarantees affordable health care, restores a permanent refundable child tax credit, expands housing construction and rental assistance, protects reproductive and medical privacy, strengthens unions and wage protections, and prevents senior government officials from profiting through individual stock trading.
Please also defend voting access, judicial ethics, an independent civil service, inspectors general, whistleblowers, and the principle that no president, judge, legislator, corporation, or wealthy individual is above the law.
Rather than introducing disconnected bills, please convene a working group to create a coordinated package with measurable goals for reducing child poverty, medical debt, homelessness, corruption, and preventable illness.
Please identify the legislation you will sponsor or support and use your leadership position to secure hearings and recorded votes.
