I am writing to implore you to make forced sterilizations illegal in the state of Michigan. No government should be able to declare an individual “unfit” or otherwise unsuited for reproduction and violate their bodily autonomy to take away their ability to have kids. Forced sterilization is the main tool of eugenicists, and is disproportionately administered on people of color. Eugenics has no place in this country, and I want every law allowing and supporting it to be overturned, expunged, and a formal and sincere apology given to all those who had their very personhood deemed inferior.
