I am writing to you today with deep concern regarding the alarming rise of fascist and hateful rhetoric targeting transgender adults and children. The ridiculous number of executive orders churning out are problematic and many of them are an attempt to erase an entire group of people. This is, historically, a technique used before extremism and terrorism take root. It is not only morally reprehensible but also actively harms vulnerable individuals and undermines the fundamental principles of equality and justice upon which our nation is founded. This is not simply a matter of opinion; it is a constitutional crisis demanding immediate legislative action. The facts and data clearly demonstrate the severity of the situation: The Trevor Project’s 2022 National Survey on LGBTQ Youth reported that 45% of LGBTQ youth seriously considered suicide in the past year, with transgender and nonbinary youth experiencing significantly higher rates. This is directly correlated to the pervasive anti-trans rhetoric that fuels discrimination, harassment, and violence. Reports from organizations like the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) consistently show a rise in hate crimes targeting transgender individuals, particularly transgender women of color. This violence is often fueled by the dehumanizing language used in political discourse and social media. Studies consistently show that gender-affirming care improves the mental health and well-being of transgender individuals. Restricting access to this care is not only harmful but also contradicts evidence-based medical practice. The normalization of fascist and hateful rhetoric against transgender individuals creates a climate of fear and intolerance that allows for violence and discrimination to flourish. We must actively counter this dangerous trend through legislative action. I urge you to: 1. Condemn publicly all forms of anti-trans rhetoric and violence. 2. Support and sponsor legislation that protects transgender rights at the federal level, including ensuring access to gender-affirming care and prohibiting discrimination based on gender identity 3. Increase funding for organizations that support transgender individuals and provide resources to combat anti-trans violence and discrimination. The well-being and safety of transgender adults and children depend on our collective action. We must stand up against fascism and hate and create a society where all individuals are treated with dignity and respect. Thank you for your time.
