Oppose Military Escalation Against Venezuela

To: Rep. Moolenaar, Sen. Slotkin, Sen. Peters

From: A constituent in Rockford, MI

December 17

I am writing to urge you to oppose the Trump administration's military escalation toward Venezuela. Recent reports indicate that Trinidad and Tobago has agreed to allow U.S. military access to its airports amid rising tensions. This development signals a dangerous trajectory toward potential military intervention. Before any military action is considered, the administration must provide credible, verifiable evidence to Congress and the American people justifying such drastic measures. Vague claims about national security threats are insufficient grounds for military action that could cost American lives and billions in taxpayer dollars. The administration has not demonstrated how Venezuela poses an imminent threat to the United States that would warrant military intervention. Military action would trigger a humanitarian catastrophe, displacing millions and destabilizing neighboring countries already managing refugee flows. The United States has a documented history of failed military interventions in Latin America that achieved neither their stated objectives nor lasting stability. Venezuela's challenges require diplomatic solutions, not military threats that bypass congressional oversight. I am troubled that military preparations are advancing without congressional authorization. The Constitution grants Congress the power to declare war, yet the administration appears to be positioning forces without seeking proper legislative approval. I urge you to publicly oppose any unauthorized military action against Venezuela and demand that the administration pursue diplomatic channels. Please support legislation restricting military operations against Venezuela without congressional authorization and insist that the administration present credible evidence before any escalation proceeds. The American people deserve a foreign policy grounded in evidence and constitutional process, not unsubstantiated claims that lead to costly conflicts.
