Oppose Reckless NOSHA Act, Protect Workplace Safety Standards

To: Rep. Barrett, Sen. Peters, Sen. Slotkin

From: A constituent in Brighton, MI

February 13

I urge you not to support the NOSHA Act (H.R. 86), which would repeal the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970 and abolish the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). This reckless legislation would strip away critical workplace safety protections that have saved countless lives and prevented innumerable injuries over the past five decades. OSHA's regulations and enforcement activities have played a pivotal role in making workplaces safer and holding employers accountable for providing a safe work environment. Its standards have reduced exposure to hazards like toxic chemicals, excessive noise, fall risks, and other occupational dangers across industries. Abolishing OSHA would put workers at increased risk of preventable accidents, illnesses, and fatalities. Furthermore, eliminating OSHA would remove vital whistleblower protections and employer requirements to provide safety training, maintain injury/illness records, and comply with health and safety standards. This would disproportionately impact vulnerable populations and exacerbate existing disparities in workplace safety. For the well-being of our nation's workforce and their families, I strongly urge you to oppose this misguided legislation that undermines hard-won worker protections. Responsible oversight and enforceable standards are essential to ensuring every employee can return home safely at the end of their shift.
