The recent transfer of nearly 100 migrants, including children, from a hotel in Panama City to a remote jungle camp with primitive conditions and disease risks is deeply concerning. Detaining people, many of whom fled violence and poverty, in fenced cages without access to adequate food, shelter or medical care is inhumane and violates human rights principles. This cruel policy of expelling unauthorized migrants to third countries like Panama, begun under the previous U.S. administration, must end immediately. People should not be subjected to such traumatic circumstances after an already arduous journey. We urge an investigation into these disturbing reports and call for the immediate release of these detainees to safety. Immigration policies rooted in compassion that uphold human dignity are imperative.
