The Alabama Special Session

To: Rep. Reynolds, Sen. Givhan

From: A verified voter in Huntsville, AL

May 4

I ask that in the just-announced special session that you vote against the proposed trigger laws that will abandon current districting in favor of older maps (and delay primaries in order to accommodate the change). This attempt is frankly embarrassing. This is Alabama! Does no one remember that the lives lost in the 1965 Selma organization and march were lost in efforts to secure representation for Black Alabamians? I am a white citizen who is content with the way that our current maps have produced Congressional representation in good proportion to our State's demographics. To intentionally fall back to maps that disadvantage Black voters in Alabama is cruel and ignorant of the lines in our pledge that promise "liberty and justice for all". Please do not allow Alabama to backslide.
