More protections for trans people

To: Gov. Whitmer, Sen. Daley, Rep. Martin

From: A verified voter in Davison, MI

March 13

Republicans in Congress and in the White House have been chipping away at trans rights for the past few months. This is putting people like my friends, people like me, and people that I love in danger. The federal government has not been doing enough to protect this marginalized group, and I know with Democrats being in the minority it’s even more difficult for them to add more protections. So I am writing this to ask that we add more protections in the state of Michigan for trans and LGBTQIA plus members. In the past month, I’ve seen trans people unable to have access to passports, which means that they will not be able to escape the country if they deem it necessary for their safety. I’ve also seen attacks on transgender youth in sports, transgender youth and transgender adults seeking to transition safely. I know Michigan has done quite a bit to protect us, But it needs to do more. We need to set up the protections against the very real possibility of a future where trans people are rounded up and put into detention centers, or are forced to de-transition. Trans People‘s lives are at stake and we need to do everything in our power to protect them to keep this group safe from whatever the federal government might throw at us
