Replace Chuck Schumer as Senate Democratic Leader
To: Sen. Peters, Sen. Slotkin
From: A constituent in Stevensville, MI
November 6
Block any effort to return Chuck Schumer to Senate Democratic leadership. Democrats just won historic victories, and the caucus cannot hand the reins back to a leader who AIPAC publicly congratulated by name, promising to keep funding him as long as he stays by Israel's side. That is not independence. That is a conflict of interest.
Senator-elect Peggy Flanagan said it plainly on election night: it is "time for new leadership." Senator Chris Van Hollen put it just as clearly: "no one should be committing to anybody as the next Democratic leader" without a commitment to a bold kitchen table agenda. Schumer has not made that commitment, and his record gives no reason to expect he will.
Democrats were given a mandate on Tuesday. Voters want affordability, oversight, and a party that fights. Schumer's brand of incrementalism is exactly what this moment cannot afford. Vote for new leadership that answers to constituents, not to lobbying organizations that openly brag about their influence over both parties.
