Families living near coal plants — disproportionately lower-income communities — will now breathe more mercury, arsenic, and toxic soot, with no real-time monitoring to even track how bad it gets. The justification doesn't hold up. EPA's own analysis found the 2024 rule delivered $33 million in annual health benefits with minimal impact on electricity reliability. Most covered plants were already meeting the stronger standards or close to it. This repeal isn't about keeping the lights on — it's about handing a lifeline to a handful of the dirtiest plants in the country at the direct expense of children's neurological development, people with heart and lung disease, and communities that already bear the heaviest pollution burden. Every person, regardless of income or zip code, has a right to breathe clean air. Fight this.
