I’m urging you to vote NO on H.R. 1, the “One Big Beautiful Bill.” This legislation is not just harmful in its impact, but also rooted in the mistaken idea that government should operate like a for-profit business. That is not its role. Government exists to serve the people. Its purpose is to provide essential services that protect public health, stability, and opportunity. This bill would add $4 trillion to the national debt while cutting $900 billion from Medicaid, stripping healthcare from 1.7 million Americans, and removing food assistance from 5 million people. In Texas, where healthcare access and food insecurity are already serious issues, these cuts would be devastating. Programs like Medicaid, SNAP, and clean energy investment are not luxuries or waste. They are foundational supports that keep communities functioning. Cutting them under the guise of efficiency does not reflect responsible leadership. It reflects a failure to prioritize people. In Central Texas, hospitals are already stretched by high numbers of uninsured patients. Slashing Medicaid would only increase that strain and raise healthcare costs for everyone. At the same time, Texas is a national leader in renewable energy. Eliminating clean energy investment puts jobs at risk and slows innovation that benefits both the economy and environment. This bill also includes tax breaks for billionaires, while removing the very services that everyday Texans rely on. That does not reflect public service. It reflects misplaced priorities that favor the wealthy at the expense of working families. I am asking you to vote no because this bill fails to serve the public good. Texans deserve leadership that invests in people, not one that sacrifices essential services for political gain or short-term savings. Vote NO on H.R. 1. We are paying attention.
