Stop removing public data and ensure transparency.

To: Sen. Padilla, Rep. Simon, Sen. Schiff

From: A constituent in San Leandro, CA

February 2, 2025

This is unprecedented. This is fascism. This is an authoritarian regime removing public data from access to make sure there's nothing out there that can conflict with their message. The purging of scientific data and information from federal websites is deeply concerning and represents a threat to public knowledge and transparency. Deliberately removing access to vital public health datasets, research findings, and educational resources sets a dangerous precedent of censorship and information control. This will hamper efforts to address pressing issues like disease prevention, health disparities, and disaster preparedness that rely on open access to factual data. As elected representatives, you have a responsibility to safeguard the public's right to information and hold the administration accountable for these undemocratic actions. I urge you to take immediate steps to halt the removal of data from government websites and ensure all public information remains freely available. The American people deserve full transparency from their government, not the suppression of facts. Please act swiftly to protect the integrity of publicly-funded research and data that is crucial for informed policymaking and public welfare. The consequences of allowing this erosion of public knowledge will be severe and long-lasting.
