I am writing to express my strong opposition to U.S. military intervention in Syria. I urge you to support policies that end airstrikes, withdraw all U.S. troops, and lift economic sanctions that are exacerbating the humanitarian crisis.
Recent U.S. actions, including airstrikes and troop deployments, violate both international law and the sovereignty of the Syrian people. Senate Joint Resolution 51 (S.J.Res.51) affirms the illegality of such intervention without explicit Congressional authorization and adherence to the War Powers Resolution. It also underscores the necessity of honoring international norms regarding military engagement.
Moreover, the sanctions imposed on Syria have disproportionately harmed civilians, restricting access to essential goods, medical supplies, and infrastructure rebuilding. The interview with Syrian families highlights the devastating human toll: mass graves and the displacement of millions are evidence of the enduring impact of prolonged conflict.
U.S. military intervention undermines Syrians’ ability to determine their own future. Many Syrians, after decades under the Assad regime, have been vocal about their desire for self-determination. Instead of military action, I advocate for a policy of restraint rooted in diplomacy, humanitarian aid, and adherence to international law.
I implore you to champion a just and peaceful resolution in Syria by opposing further intervention and advocating for the immediate cessation of airstrikes, troop withdrawal, and the lifting of sanctions. This approach not only aligns with American values but also upholds the fundamental rights of the Syrian people.
