I am writing as a concerned constituent about recent statements and actions by Elon Musk, head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). His social media posts and public gestures have promoted misleading historical narratives and extremist imagery, which demand accountability.
• Distorting Responsibility for the Holocaust: Musk recently claimed that “sector workers,” not leaders, were responsible for the deaths of Jewish people. This dangerously rewrites history. Leadership matters—whether in historical atrocities or in present-day governance. Attempts to deflect blame from those in power undermine accountability and set a troubling precedent.
• Alleged Nazi Salute: During President Trump’s inauguration, Musk made a gesture widely interpreted as a Nazi salute. At best, this was an irresponsible act from a high-profile figure in government. At worst, it signals an alarming normalization of extremism.
These statements and actions are dangerous, much like efforts to downplay the responsibility of leaders for events like January 6. Just as leadership matters in times of crisis, it matters in government oversight. Leaders set the tone for accountability, and their words and actions shape the future.
I urge you to:
• Affirm the responsibility of leadership in shaping history and governance. Leaders must be held accountable for their words and actions.
• Speak out against misinformation and extremist imagery, which have no place in government or public discourse.
• Ensure oversight of DOGE, preventing it from being used as a tool for political influence rather than genuine efficiency.
Musk was not elected, yet he wields significant power and influence. His words and actions should be held to the highest standard, as should all public officials. I ask you to take a stand in defense of responsible leadership and historical truth.
Thank you for your time and service.
